About

Elliot founded Uncommon in 2019 with the specific vision of helping startup to midsize companies design and manufacture high quality medical devices which operate safely and deliver the results patients need

Doing good work with excellence is what motivates Elliot. It was this understanding—that work must be both good (beneficial to humankind) and also excellent (done with a high degree of skill and care)—that nudged Elliot in the direction of a career in medical devices.

Elliot prefers a holistic approach to medical device design and development: any device is a part of a larger system, and all stakeholders should benefit from its existence. By working independently when possible and leveraging his network of talented designers, engineers, regulatory professionals, and manufacturers when a project requires collaboration, he hopes to continue to solve problems and improve lives.

In addition to his experience, Elliot holds degrees in Biomedical Engineering from Bucknell University (BSBME, 2011) and Electrical and Computer Engineering from Temple University (MSECE, 2014).

Elliot lives near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is married to Dr. Tara Franz, a successful optometrist. When he is not working on a medical device project, Elliot enjoys many outdoor activities, especially hiking (solvitur ambulando) with his family and dog, mountain biking, and gardening. He is a people person and he would love the opportunity to meet you!

“[Work] is the gracious expenditure of creative energy released in the service of others.”
